Movies To Be Released in 2011

December 26th, 2010  |  Published in Movies

SAAT KHOON MAAF: Vishal Bhardwaj’s films may often not make money at the box-office but his sheer genius as a filmmaker is enough to get one section of the audience (read, the classes) all excited. Yes, if it is VIshal, saat flops maaf. The January release is already talk of the industry and the elite.

NO ONE KILLED JESSICA: If this one is able to create even a fourth of the hysteria that the Jessica Lall murder case, on which it is based, created in India, it will be enough to set the cash registers ringing. It could also give the fading career of Rani Mukherji a boost. She plays an investigative journalist modeled on real-life journalist Barkha Dutt. Vidya Balan plays Jessica’s sister,  Sabrina Lall in this UTV production.

THANK YOU: An Anees Bazmee film, this one stars Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Sunil Shetty and Celina Jaitley. It is making brisk progress so that it can be readied for release soon.

AARAKSHAN: Ajay Devgan may have walked out of Aarakshan but Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone still make this film on the reservation issue in India, an exciting proposal. Prakash Jha directs it.

DIRTY PICTURE: Don’t screw up your nose, this is just a tentative title. Milan Luthria and Ekta Kapoor join forces once again after their recent hit, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, for a film inspired by the life of South’s sexy siren, Silk Smitha (to be played by Vidya Balan). The male lead could be either Ajay Devgan or Emran Hashmi.

ROCKSTAR: That’s what Ranbir Kapoor is. And that’s the title of hie new film with Imtiaz Ali at the helm. Why, then, will it not rock at the box-office?

RASCALS: David Dhawan, the original master of comedies, will be back after a long break with Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan this time. Kangana Ranaut plays the leading lady of the two rascals, sorry, heroes. Sanjay Dutt is producing this film under his own banner.

DESI BOYZ: David Dhawan’s  son, Rohit Dhawan, makes his foray into direction. This film stars Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone.

YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA: If the three rough-and-tough Deols could make you cry in Apne, making you laugh should be a left-hand task for the father-sons trio. The first trailer of Samir Karnik’s film has been so well-received that the film was picked up by the distributors immediately – and at fancy prices.

DELHI BELLY: Never mind if Aamir Khan is not happy with Abhinay Deo’s version of Delhi Belly. He must have seen something in the film to have kept it on the backburner for more than a year rather than release it the way it was. After being done with Dhobi Ghat, Aamir plans to take up this Imran Khan starrer and give it that unmistakable AK stamp.

ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA: Zoya Akhtar may have delivered a dud in Luck By Chance but the girl’s very lucky. After all her second film stars Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol, Farhan Akhtar, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin. And that’s not by chance.

PATIALA HOUSE: Nikhil Advani’s film about a huge Indian family based in London. The February release will get the Bobby team back together. Yes, besides Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma, it stars Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.

MURDER 2: Mahesh Bhatt’s sequel to his hit Murder, but minus Mallika Sherawat and director Anurag Basu. Emran Hashmi will be paired with Jacqueline Fernandes in the second part to be directed by Mohit Suri.

KARAN JOHAR’S UNTITLED FILM: The maverick filmmaker will introduce two new boys – Varun Dhawan(younger son of David Dhawan) and Siddharth Malhotra – in this young film which he himself will direct.

DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI: Neither an expose nor a satire, genres for which Madhur Bhandarkar is well-known, this one is a slice-of-life entertainer about three guys and how they react when three girls enter their lives.

MAUSAM: Pankaj Kapur, the actor for all seasons, has gone behind the camera for the first time. He is directing his son, Shahid Kapur, and Sonam.

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN: Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar(of Tere Bin Laden) star in this Yash Chopra production being directed by debut-making Ali Abbas Zafar. And no, actor Ali Zafar and director Ali Abbas Zafar are not brothers in real life.

SHORT TERM SHAADI: This is the tentative title for a film which Karan Johar is producing with Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan.

AGENT VINOD:  Saif Ali Khan proved lucky in his first production venture, Love Aaj Kal. He is hoping box-office history repeats itself in his second outing as producer – this time with girl friend Kareena as his leading lady.

PLAYERS: Abbas-Mustan are officially remaking The Italian Job with Bobby Deol, Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor and Omi Vaidya.

JOKER: Akshay Kumar plays the male lead in this 3D human drama which will be “on the lines of the Hollywood file, Life Is Beautiful”, as Shirish Kunder’s filmmaker-choreographer wife, Farah Khan, puts it. Sonakshi Sinha is the female lead.

HAUNTED: India’s first 3D horror film and Vikram Bhatt’s most expensive project to date. It will re-launch Mithun Chakraborty’s son, Mimoh under the name of Mahakshay Chakraborty, with new girl Tia Bajpai.

AGNEEPATH: It would be interesting to see Hrithik Roshan in the remake of the original Agneepath, that too, for the same banner, Karan Johar’s Dharma Production.

BARFEE: Anurag Basu’s film was earlier titled Silence. And Basu will break his silence after Kites with this film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and, probably, South actress Illeena.

REMAKE OF SINGHAM: This will be remade in Hindi by Rohit Shetty for Reliance Big Pictures. It will, of course, star Shett’s favourite hero, Ajay Devgan, who reportedly, has been paid Rs 11 crore for the action flick (more than double his market price). Insiders also say that Ajay left Rajkumar Santoshi’s Power (for which he was being paid Rs 5crore) for this film, besides other problems with the makers.

ROHIT SHETTY’S UNTITLED FILM: After making three Golmaal films for Shree Ashtavinayak, Rohit Shetty is making yet another comedy for them. It will release on Diwali, which seems to have become a lucky festival for Shetty. Ajay Devgan and Abhishek Bachchan join forces for this one.

DOUBLE DHAMAAL: It’s the age of sequels and so we have another sequel by producer-director Indra Kumar and producer Ashok Thakeria.

VIPUL SHAH’S REMAKE OF KA KHA KA KHA: John Abraham flexes his muscles in this action flick directed by Nishikant Kamath (Mumbai Meri Jaan) for producer Vipul Shah. Genelia D’Souza is John’s unlikely heroine.

HOUSEFULL 2: Sajid Khan is planning the sequel to the first success story of 2010. He has finalized Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Ritesh Deshmukh, but will decide on the leading ladies later.
