How to Avoid Allergies

1 The Sinus-situs: A common problem in the late winter months is due to a swollen sinus. The best way to keep it under control is by drinking plenty of water. Also, if you believe in Yoga, praanayam works as best remedy for sinus-situs.

2 Food for thought: Avoid foods such as milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, banana, cucumber and eggs as these items can cause an allergic reaction and aggravate your asthma. Have more of fresh fruit juices and green tea as these boost your immunity.

3 Fatty foods: Eat soya bean, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and salmon, which are rich in omega 3 fatty acids – rich in natural anti-inflammatory properties.

4 Eliminate allergies: Keep your house dust-free to ward off allergies. Change your sheets frequently. Keep away from smoke (cigarette smokers), at home avoid being near to agarbattis, dhupbattis(used in pooja)

5 Deodorants/Perfumes: Avoid using heavy perfumes, deodorants as these can also start allergy or aggravate it. Certain kind of soap also have strong flavor so use them effectively.

6 Handkerchief/tissue: Always keep hankie with you; try to cover your nose in environment which is smoggy. Don’t wait for an irritation to start. This habit will help in long term precautions and slowly will work as remedy.

7 Pet owners: If you have pets, keep them well-groomed to eliminate dander.
