Nobel Prize 2009: A record year for Women

This year a record five women were honored by the Nobel committees. In total, only 40 women have won the prestigious prizes, including Marie Curie who took the 1903 physics prize and the 1911 chemistry prize.

The 2009 winners include:

All about India’s Budget

The Budget Speech of the Finance Minister

It is fine tuned to the last minute. Some of the budget documents are almost ready and goes for printing to a press located in North Block itself. Security agencies cordon off the press and entry is almost prohibited.

In India, the Budget is presented in Parliament on a date fixed by the President.

The finance minister delivers the Budget speech in Parliament. Normally, on February 28, the finance minister delivers the Budget Speech in Lok Sabha. After which Budget documents are made available. These are out on the web site http://www.finmin.nic.in .However, if the year turns out to be leap year; the budget is presented to Parliament on 29th February. Read more…

Anti-ragging Helpline

A new helpline has been launched by Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibbal, which promises to help victims of ragging within 15 minutes. This is termed as National anti-ragging helpline.

Some facts about Swine flu

Swine Influenza, the latest disease to spread panic amongst people, can be described as respiratory disease of pigs. Popularly known as swine flu, it is caused by type-A influenza virus and is characterized by high levels of illness in pigs. However, the disease does not result in too many deaths, in other words it has a low mortality rate. While swine influenza might hit the pigs, and cause an outbreak, at any time during the year, it is more commonly seen during the late fall and winter months.
