The Australian team behind the technology wireless LAN was recognized was their work, on the same date that the organization’s annual report reveals the magnitude of the invention’s worth.

Headed by electrical engineer Dr John O’Sullivan, the researchers were awarded the CSIRO chairman’s Medal at a ceremony in Melbourne.

Wireless LAN, also known as WiFi or IEEE 802.11, forms the backbone of wireless networks around the world, and is used in an estimated 800 million devices including computers, printers and mobile phones. Read more…

Nobel Prize 2009: A record year for Women

This year a record five women were honored by the Nobel committees. In total, only 40 women have won the prestigious prizes, including Marie Curie who took the 1903 physics prize and the 1911 chemistry prize.
