Actor Patrick Swayze died at the age of 57 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick, who was a Buddhist, was listed by People magazine as its “Sexiest Man Alive†in 1991.
Dance always played a big role in Swayze’s life. His mother owned a Houston dance studio, where he met his future wife, Lisa Niemi, when they were teenagers. He studied ballet in New York. An injury forced a side-step into acting. He achieved stardom playing dance instructor Johny Castle in Dirty Dancing in 1987.
Ghost, 1990 beyond-the-grave love story starring Swayze and Demi Moore, was an even bigger hit with a box office take of $505 million around the world.
In 1992 Swayze teamed up with Om Puri and Pauline Collins, for Indian drama City of Joy
Swayze’s last role was as an undercover agent in TV drama series The Beast
