rohit-sharmaRohit Sharma who plays for the Deccan chargers has been named as the best Under-23 player of the IPL season-II, which comes to end on Sunday 24thMay, 2009. Rohit was selected unanimously for the award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh, by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi shastri and MAK Pataudi, the adjudicators of the award. The 22 year old right hander from Mumbai won the award by virtue of the 333 runs he scored in the leagues matches of the T20 tournament at an average of 27.75 and a strike rate of 119. Apart from his brilliance with the bat, Rohit also shone with the ball with the ball, having taken 11 wickets at average of 11.45 including hat-trick.

Rohit will hope to take this form and consistency in the T20 world cup starting next month. He has often been found wanting at the international level especially with the amount of talent he possesses and shown in the first few of his matches, may be this is time he will come into his own. I hope he does well and allow a formation of a very formidable middle order for the Indian batting order.
