There’s some good news to ‘drive’ all motorists happy. Now, you don’t have to stand in long queues to get a driver’s license. The transport department has finally linked all its zonal offices.
The new system will now streamline the way driver’s licenses are issued in the Capital.
HOW TO APPLY FOR A DRIVERS LICENSE
- You can apply for a learner’s license as soon as you turn 18.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- Form No. 1, 2, 3 duly filled (available on the website or collect them from any transport office.
- 3 copies of recent passport size photo
- PROOF OF RESIDENCE – (voter identity card/life insurance policy of a nationalized company/passport)
- PROOF OF AGE – (school certificate/passport/birth certificate)
- Converse yourself with all traffic rules. You will have to take an online test. You will be given learner’s license if you score 60%. A question bank is provided on the department website to learn about the content of the test like road signs and traffic rules. Fee: Rs. 50
- Rs 30 for only motorcycle and Rs 60 for motorcycle and light motor vehicle.
- All photo copies need to be attested by Gazetted officer or Notary Public
- Expected time: 2-3 hours
PERMANENT DRIVER’s LICENSE
- You can apply for permanent license within 30 to 180 days of the issuance of learner license.
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- Your  learner’s license
- Application in Form No.4
- One recent passport size photograph
- Proof of Age and address
- After scrutiny of documents you will be put through the driving test. For driving test you have to bring along your vehicle.
- If you fail the test, you can take another test after at least 7 days Fee: Rs 200
- License is issued the same day
