From Sunday, 10 May 2009, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will extend Line 3 (Dwarka Sector 9 – Indraprastha) upto Yamuna Bank – an increase of 2.1 kilometers. This development promises to bring about a paradigm shift in the travel habits of almost 40 lakh trans-Yamuna commuters. The opening of this section is likely to reduce the road traffic on the two important bridges – the Nizamuddin Bridge and the ITO Bridge – connecting east Delhi with the rest of the city. Both bridges are major traffic bottlenecks, especially during peak hours.
- One of the existing feeder bus service from shastri park metro station to Vasundhra enclave will also drop passengers about 800 meters from the Metro Station.
- People living in Laxmi Nagar, Shakarpur, IP Extension, Mayur Vihar and other colonies along Vikas Marg will be benefited.
