If you are one of those having an unbranded phone then you are most possibly be directly effected. 25 million mobile customers in India will be stamped out on June 30.

If your phone does not have valid IMEI number, you will be throwing that piece away come June 30. But there is an alternative to save your mobile phone. Dial *#06# on your handset to see your unique indentification code. Then sms IMEI space number to 53232 to double check that it is genuine because chances are, it may be not.

The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used to stop a stolen phone from accessing the network. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to “ban” the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless, whether or not the phone’s SIM is changed.
