Yup!! You heard it right. Internet search engine giant Google has another feather to its cap “Chromebooks”, a Chrome Operating System-based notebook PC without traditional programs or a desktop. Chrome book is available online @ http://www.google.com/chromebook/. This is a move that could affect the market share of existing players like Microsoft and Apple.

In a Chromebook, task such as installing software, running anti-virus checks and data back-up would be handled by the always-on cloud services offered by Google.

Cloud Computing services can be broadly defined as virtual servers available over the internet. This does not fall under typical notebooks. With a Chromebook, you won’t wait minutes for the computer to boot and browser to start. Application, games, photo, music, movies and documents will be accessible wherever the user is.

Chromebooks, made by Samsung and Acer were made available from June 15, 2011 in the US, UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

For the last two years, Google has been advocating its Chrome operating system as an alternative to Windows. Chromebook’s other features include battery life, optional 3G and many layers of security built-in which allows to have freedom to do away with anti-virus software.
