Deccan Chargers, Winners of IPL-2009

May 24th, 2009  |  Published in IPL

deccanAt the moment I am watching the finals being played between Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore and the news it Deccan Chargers have won the match by 6 runs.

The whole team runs out and storms the field and what scenes in Johannesburg, one of the greatest venues in world cricket. All the Deccan players and support staff are cock-a-hoop, whooping it up like school kids on the last day of exams. Hats off to them. They finished last in 2008 and have now won the trophy. Really amazing stuff from them. RP Singh bowled a good last over. He still keep the purple cap. The two teams line up to shake hands. Gilchrist leads Deccan on a lap of victory. The crowd laps it up. Bangalore walk off looking gutted. Poor Kumble. He bowled superbly, taking four wickets, and Deccan were kept to 143. It looked an achievable target but Bangalore’s batsmen fell to a mixture of good bowling and reckless shots. Dravid, Roelof and Taylor all fell to loose shots. PK did too but he’s not a batsman. Kumble looks very crestfallen.

Deccan Chargers were placed last in the IPL-I, so it been terrific fightback from them. I feel a little sad for Jumbo(Anil jumboKumble), he did everything right from winning the toss, bringing in bowling changes and he himself was terrific with the ball in his hand truly he led from the front, he finished with 4 for 16 in his 4 overs. But his batsmen failed to cross the line, but nevertheless its been good IPL-II for them too.

Closing ceremony for the IPL-II has started, with Lalit Modi giving a speech. So, will come up with details at the end of the ceremony. A lot of celebrities are expected to perform at the ceremony – naming few Akon, Eddy Grant.
